What are human factors?
This eLearning package will explain what is meant by the term human factors and describe how human factors affect patient safety.
Human factors can be defined as follows:
"These skills can be defined as behaviours not directly related to the use of medical expertise, drugs or equipment. They encompass both interpersonal skills (e.g. communication, team working and leadership), and cognitive skills (e.g. situation awareness and decision making). Such skills are not new; good doctors have always demonstrated these competencies. However, training can improve these skills."
