When all preparations are ready, the mother should be placed in lithotomy position:
- hips abducted and flexed
- legs suitably supported
- buttocks at the end of the bed
- do not have the mother flat on her back – place a wedge under her right lumbar region.
Avoid excessive abduction if the mother suffers from symphysis pubis dysfunction.
Check that the bed is an appropriate height for the delivery. The height the bed may need to be adjusted during the course of the delivery.
